According to recent reports, yet another  example of the aggressive approach of capitalism to get its way come what may, comes from Finland. Google went ahead and cleared 1300 acres of forest land, felling about 400,000 trees for its planned data centres BEFORE any permits were received or mandatory environmental impact assessments conducted. The government ordered the work to be halted.

Public anger and political criticism over the country's growing datacentre industry forced Google to publicly apologize for procedural failures and the illegal land clearance and tree felling. The sheer arrogance of Google’s action is breath taking and its brazen actions have started a debate in Finland over the expansion of datacentres.
